Norton security suite 4 reviews

What I think they should do instead of keeping constant banners and ads and popups is have a selectable option Need Something Else? Hell, having 1 banner or ad pop up roughly once a month that had a little "x" on it which I could close to not see again would be fine. That is what other services do. But this constant annoyance has brought me here, to knock their otherwise great product, because I feel if enough people know and share their negative experience Norton will hopefully change this to something a little less undesirable.

I have literally wasted 30 minutes because of my annoyance, thank you Norton. I initially posted this elsewhere, just wanted to expand potential views of my post.

VERY Unethical company. If I could give them NO stars I would. Had heard so many great things about Norton thought I'd give it a try. Installed the free trial they offered. It would not work. Could not get it to even open. Kept getting messages that it could not "connect". Uninstalled and re-installed it after making sure all remnants of previous install was removed. Sat on phone NO ONE answered. No response to multiple emails. Finally removed it from my system.

Show More has expired. My email address had to come from Norton. It was an email that I seldom used and then ONLY for personal correspondence with three 3 family members. To this day the only consistent spam email I get at that email address is regarding Norton.

Makes me believe this company, that brags about how secure our personal information entrusted to them, is selling our email address. Would never trust them again. Will never allow them near any personal information again Denis Desautels J.

I too, had a very bad experience with Norton with LifeLock. The first problem is that you have to manually turn the VPN on. This is ridiculous.

Second problem is you cannot change your phone number. They have to cancel your ac Show More count and create a new one for you. When they create your new account you have to give them a new email. Most people don't have multiple email accounts. I ended up getting a refund. How can anyone expect them to protect you when they can't do simple things. Norton is a joke. Lousy Product - Norton Premium. For starters I have had difficulty installing Norton Premium. After 2 tel calls to Norton lasting many hours , I manage to install it.

Then came other problems. Luckily was able to recover to Windows thro system restore. Recently got another BSOD which is unrecoverable. Have to re-install Windows 10 Professional. Now losing confidence in Norton products and that is why at this website to asses whether to continue with Norton. It is quite to get a refund because I bought it at retail outlet. I lost my job a few months back after my divorce with my wife. I tried everything positive to make sure I took good care of my kids but all failed, and I was in debt which makes everythin Show More g worse.

I was kicked out of my home and i had to live with my neighbor after pleading with her to allow me to stay with her for some days while I figured out how to get a home which she agreed to, but no one was willing to help anymore. I bumped into this page from google and I was excited about this, then I contacted the hackersBill Dean.

I never believed my eyes! The card got blocked the third day and I contacted them and I was told it's a mistake from my end. Be carefull with the Credit Card automatic renewal button, That reminder renewal number from to time to renew will disappear, and just say active, so beware of renewal end date for one, second they give you Norton utilities if you have automatic renewal for free, but if you cancel automatic renewal option, Norton utilities will cancel automatically, then the next time I turned my computer on, I was locked out from windows.

Mohammed E. Actually, i bought norton deluxe and only thing is ui is horrible! Then i realized that ui can changed to normal ui. There's only 2 themes and one is super bad. After changing to old ui, norton wasnt that bad. It blocked viruses from opening. Better than free avs, malwarebytes etc free and its super cheap only 11 dollars for Turkey.

Ron Levine. No, Norton didn't stop it I upgraded to the "lifelock" thing, and just found out My bank and Paypal are with me and helping Bob Loeffler. Don't buy it. I purchased Norton for Mac because I'm a subcontractor and the main contractor for the project told me I had too. I regret it. It doesn't work well for the type of back-ups I use. It tries to delete back-up copies of files.

So, I had to turn parts of it off. And it bombards me with spam about turning things on or buying addition. I do not want my applications to bombard me with spam. And I want the product to work well with non-Norton, Apple applications. It doesn't do either. It's a pain in the you-know-what. I don't recommend it. Mar Mac. I used to be a Norton fan, but for the last years Norton is beating badly on my confidence.

I have the full subscription of Norton , with 10 licenses. Last-pass is much better. Not enough? Not even to ping another device. To get the Show More network connection again, iMac requires a restart. I dig into many forums, site, blogs, etc The solution? To get rid from the pop-up annoyance? Romo didn't mention the benefits of keeping the three apps: Norton Firewall, Norton Confidential and Norton Antivirus separated.

However, trying to merge all of them for the sake of doing so would have been a mistake in this reviewer's opinion. Keeping them separate avoids errors in the code, keeps each app focused, and allows the user to focus on the task at hand. A pplications like this use kernel extensions. For example, prior to this review I was using the highly regarded Objective Development's Little Snitch to monitor outgoing connections and Intego Virus Barrier to catch malware -- since my job has me living on the Internet in a wide raging fashion.

Both of those apps have uninstallers, and so I removed them before installing NIS 4 and rebooted to be safe. The installation is via a package installer.

Right after installation, the DeepSight and Virus databases are checked and brought up to date. Administrator privileges are required because of the.

The app automatically starts a series of screens that enable or disable some basic settings, such as location awareness, phishing protection, and an alert bar in each Web browser launched. With user permission. Finally, the user is asked if the apps should be put in the dock and whether feedback to the DeepSight community should be allowed for their analysis efforts.

At this point, with the standard defaults, most users can just sit back and relax. Updates to the virus definitions are done automatically, in the background. If the user is tired of Mac OS X's Finder and others apps constantly reporting back to Apple, those apps can be identified and blocked. Other apps that appear to be reporting in for more than just an occasional version check can be blocked, just as with Little Snitch.

T here are no formal preferences for these apps because each app is basically its own configuration control panel for the three classes of settings: Firewall, Viruses, and Confidentiality settings. Then, if the user wants to dig deeper into the configuration, there is often a button that takes the user into deeper settings.

The look is fresh, technical and professional without being either condescending or overwhelming. The apps treat the user with respect because, after all, this is serious business. I n addition to the normal virus scanning and firewall functions, the user can also dictate whether certain files can be accessed or whether specific data can be outbound to the Internet, for example a social security number or account names and passwords.

The permissions go over and above the UNIX permissions to control who can access, modify or delete specified files. So Symantec strongly suggests that ipfw be turned off. NIS will detect when you've changed your location and turn that setting off if so instructed ahead of time. This is a very useful feature. In fact, comprehensive security for Mac OS X not only involves many different technical elements, but is also ever changing as the bad guys on the Internet develop new techniques and dispense with old ones.

For example, modern UNIX daemons no longer cough up their identity just for the asking on a port, and even Windows users have learned how to keep Ethernet ports closed. So now the bad guys come riding along on port 80 when the results of a Web page are returned via HTTP. Phishing scams have strong elements of human psychology.

Like Bitdefender, Kaspersky offers anti-theft features for laptops, ransomware rollbacks and a secure browser mode for online banking, but Kaspersky's browser works on Macs as well as on Windows. It also offers file encryption and unique protection against "stalkerware" used by jealous partners. However, while Kaspersky offers backup software, like Norton, it doesn't provide online storage for those backups, but instead sends you to your own Dropbox account.

The package also includes McAfee's protection against malware, the True Key password manager, Safe Kids parental controls, file encryption, file shredding, a firewall and unlimited VPN service for up to five devices.

Like many McAfee antivirus subscriptions, Total Protection Ultimate nominally protects up to 10 devices but in practice is unlimited. The downsides are that neither the VPN nor the parental controls work on Macs, and that there's no webcam protection, hardened browser or backup software. But if you want all-encompassing protection at a bargain rate, you could do a lot worse than McAfee. There's also what Trend Micro calls "ID Protection," which actually just monitors the dark web for your data and can be accessed only through mobile apps.

On the antivirus side, Trend Micro does very well in lab tests of malware detection and also provides ransomware rollbacks, a file shredder, file encryption and a system optimizer.

Trend Micro's malware engine has a remarkably small impact on Windows system performance when running in the background, but can eat up a fair amount of resources during full scans. Read our full Trend Micro Premium Security review. ESET is one of the biggest names in antivirus protection in Europe, and while its top-end Smart Security Premium suite doesn't pack in VPN service, backup software or identity protection, it's still remarkably light, fast and efficient. ESET Smart Security Premium does have a password manager, parental controls, anti-theft protections for laptops, dedicated webcam protection, a dedicated secure browser and even home-network-management software.

It even includes bare-bones antivirus software for Linux machines, and its Windows malware-detection engine does very well in lab tests. The only downside is that the parental controls don't work on iOS. Most antivirus brands tier premium subscriptions at five, 10 and sometimes 15 devices. So do you really need all these extra features with your antivirus software? Well, it's hard to argue against using a password manager. Beyond that, you have to consider your personal circumstances.

If you've got young kids or teenagers at home, then you might want parental-control software to keep tracking of what your children are doing online or to track the physical location of their phones. If you're a person of means, then investing in identity-theft protection might be wise.

If you travel a lot, you'll want to use a VPN while in hotel rooms and airport lounges.
